1020 hydraulic pump

Currently working on the hydraulic pump from a 1020. Looks like the earlier of the two listed in the parts catalog, since the shaft rides in bushings not roller bearings. The shaft and both bushings are done for. I'm wondering if parts are still available for this pump or will it need to upgraded to something newer? The rest of the pump doesn't look all that bad, as far as pistons and valves. It was still working, it just started pumping oil out the front seal. Easy to see why.

You can check to see if the parts are available by using the online parts books and parts information search at the JDParts Homepage site. If you are seeing bushing # R39310 and shaft # R39319 from what I see on line it looks like they are still available.

From my interpretation of parts catalog the hyd pump with bushings(keys 8 & 36) utilizes shaft(R39177 key 43) which is NLA

You're welcome. I still remember the lectures I recieved back in the 60's when I was 1st employed from owner of JD dealership on how important it was to read the parts descriptions & footnotes before dispensing or ordering parts.

I learned a long time ago that just because something appears in a parts book(or online diagram) that it's still available. I
called the local dealer this morning and confirmed what I had suspected. That stuff is long gone.
So what are the options? Try and find used, look for aftermarket Asian stuff? Parts man didn't feel Deere has anything even
remotely affordable to replace it.

There is a NOS R39177 shaft on eBay right now. It looks like some rust from setting, how bad or deep is a gamble. There is also a used shaft. Some aftermarket ones as well, at least one is A&I, which John Deere owns part of. Your JD dealer should be able to check that out for you if you want to go through your dealer rather than the web. The dealer I use will offer the A&I parts as an option when he quotes to me.

I know of several older tractors running the aftermarket pumps, with no issues.

Just wondering how this pump project worked out?
I went through this several months back, had one rebuilt at a pump shop, next door to a JD dealer...
They had used shafts and parts and got me going...
Thanks for any up date,
Steve
