JD H not running right

A buddies JD H runs fine if you slowly open the throttle but if you open it quickly it will fall on its face and want to die, usually following with a loud bang (backfire?). We've had the carb off and cleaned and checked cleaned/adjusted the points, tried new plugs, added Seaform, ect. Nothing seems to help.

Should we double check anything or any idea what causes this? It ran perfectly a few months ago.

Did you pull the nozzle out of the carb. center stem for a cleaning ?
Have you tried making the adjusting needles richer ( open )

You are running too lean. Turn the carb adjustments counter-clockwise a few clicks and see if it helps.

I do not recall taking anything out of the carb when we cleaned it. We just sprayed all the passages and blew it out with air. Where exactly so I take this needle out and what's should I set it at after re-installation?

There is a JD service manual for carbs. and also Roberts carbs has video's. Something like that will be way better than I can explain it.
