Model H drawbar

JD model H--drawbar and support. Parts book lists two, changing at sn7185. Can any of you tell me how to identify which is which? Does the drawbar only fit the matching support? The support piece I have is pretty rough, thinking of finding a good used but need the right one.

Been many years since I messed with these. I went to ebay for a look to try and refresh memory.
The older ones have a support frame that is open at the rear. Later ones added a cross brace at the top edge of the rear. Early drawbar only has 1 hole at rear in the offset part. Later ones have a longer part to the offset and have 1 large hole and 1 smaller hole in them. I'm pretty sure the complete assembly from a later one will bolt onto and work for all of them. I am not sure the parts will mix and match ? but I do think they should from the pics. I see of them on ebay ( which is not many )

Stuff does fit all and interchange.
Depends upon how particular you are about
originality. The early open top frames used
a bolt on strap to hold the drawbar down and
to keep it from swinging.

Mike M has stated the basics. Here's a little more description.

The first drawbar (AH508R) had Z-shaped tabs welded top and bottom which kept the drawbar from kicking up but still permitted pivoting side to side. The two tabs allowed the drawbar to be flipped upside down for a height adjustment (from 10" to 15"). However, the need for a lengthwise adjustment resulted in the change shown in the picture. The drawbar was lengthened in front and an extra pivot hole was added to permit that lengthwise (4") adjustment. But then the Z-shaped tabs wouldn't work anymore, so they were omitted and an extra cross bar was added to the drawbar support to prevent kick up and the part number of the support was changed from AH507R to AH772R. That drawbar support was provided for the remainder of "H" production. The new drawbar, H675R, originally had a rounded end but was changed to a square-cut end in later production.

Then, with S/N 47796 (beginning of the 1945 "H" production) a new drawbar (H1030R) was introduced. This drawbar is shown in the current parts book (PC 304) and has a second hole near the main drawbar pin hole. The offset bend was moved closer to the tractor. The reason for this drawbar was because Deere had finally adopted the ASAE standard S203 which made PTO sizes, rotation directions, and drawbar locations common for all manufacturers. At this time, the 1-3/8" PTO became available for the "H" as well. With the introduction of H1030R, the previous drawbar (H675R) was made obsolete and was dropped from the parts catalogs.

You're welcome, George. As D- stated in his response, a lot of these parts interchange, so it's a challenge to know what was originally furnished because they get swapped out so easily.
