3020 steering issues

I have a 3020 diesel with power shift and narrow front. I would like to know how to check if it is my steering motor, steering valve, or both that is causing this problem. With the tractor not running I can turn the steering wheel around without the wheels turning or turning slightly. I can also grab the front wheels and turn them when the tractor is running. When say mowing hay, it sometime steers one way or the other, but I can correct it with the steering wheel. Trying to figure it out so I know what to fix on it. Also, is the P/S models kind of doggy? Seems like my 2355 runs an 8 foot disc mower effortlessly than the 3020, seems to really work the snot out it.
Thanks a bunch,
Bill

Both the steer motor and valve should be re-sealed, most likely it still has the original o-rings in both,,and it has made a zillion turns over the years,,and yes the power shift will rob some power, and the engine may need freshen up too ..Reliance offers a Hi altitude piston kit that helps them some..

Thanks Tim, I was hoping you would reply. Sounds like a project this winter and I would send the steering valve out to you. I think I can do the steering motor as long as I can get the parts. As far as the engine goes, Wengers was into it and told me that they put about $5000 into.

The parts are still available for the steer motor, they can be ornery but not bad,, I can walk you through that when the time comes. I have a 3020 here that I bought for the motor, but I have decided to go through it completely,,I didn't want to part it out...looking for some Misc. parts now for it,, I went to the Portland show last weekend but didn't find anything for it..but I did find plenty of Mud....
