620 transmission issues

My 620 standard transmission started popping out of gear without the shifter actually moving . This is happening in 2nd and 4 th gear. Is there a shift rail issue that would effect both these gears at once that I should look for? I have not removed the shift rails yet, I ordered all new shift pawl springs and will replace them all, while at it but would like to know I fixed the problem before reassembly.

Any time a spur gear/sliding gear transmission starts popping out of gear it's reasonable to check to be sure there's not a failing transmission shaft bearing causing excessive "endplay" and "cocking" of a shaft.

If the shafts are running straight and true to each other, and there's not excessive gear tooth wear it doesn't take much to hold the gears in place/in mesh vs. if loose bearings allow misalignment of the shafts, or gear teeth are excessively worn.

if you want to keep and use the transmission a transmission rebuild is needed. The lower shaft with tapered bearings wears and drops down and new bearings and shim adjustment needs to be made, possibly also like previous post the shafts are worn and probably the lockers and detents need replacing. I can tell you from experience this is an expensive proposition and requires considerable knowledge and effort. A lot of tractors such as this are just recycled to new unsuspecting owners.
