4020 Power Steering

Hi Guys,

About a year ago I was having issues with the power steering on my 4020. I started with rebuilding the the front steering motor which did not help so I bought and installed a rebuilt steering valve. The steering worked great for about a year but a few weeks ago when raking hay all at once the tractor would not steer to the right and chattered when turning left.

I contacted my dealer that I bought the valve from and they were able to get me a replacement valve at no cost. I am hesitant to install it not knowing what caused the rebuilt one to fail and I am concerned the rest of the system could have debris in it. At this point how far do I go to make sure I will not have issues with this one?

As far as stuff in the hyd system I would pull the trans screen and see if you find anything there. There could be brake material in the system that may have caused the steering box to fail. It also could have been as simple as a bad hyd packing or a spring that failed in the steering box itself. Not much fun doing things a second time. Tom
