Hydraulic leak

I have a 69' 3020 gas burner. After mowing grass with it today I noticed straight steady stream of hydraulic fluid coming from around front axle. I only had couple minutes to look but it seems like a spline shaft coming off front of motor to pump. It seemed to be leaking around that front shaft. I'm looking for insight. What is best book for this tractor and has anyone ever experienced this before. All brakes, lift , and hydro are working just leaking around pump shaft.

The hydraulic pump will have to come off and be rebuilt or replaced.

Rebuilding the pump is NOT an easy job for the inexperienced, and it's gonna get EXPENSIVE if the shaft needs to be replaced because of were from the inner and outer seal.

As to the service manual, a genuine DEERE can't be beat.

You can look on ebay for a used one, or call DEERE at 1-800-522-7448.

(Typically, aftermarket copies don't illustrate the hydraulic circuits in color like the originals, making that info a LOT less clear and useful.)

Bob can a “speedy sleeve” be used to repair the shaft in this application? I have used these sleeves to repair worn/pitted input shafts on high wear items before. For instance, a pitted spindle on a one ton truck hub that would no longer hold oil. Might save him some money. You have to be careful to take accurate measurements with a good dial caliper though to get it sized correctly.

I would plan on a complete overhaul of the pump or a replacement. The shaft seal leaking is often a sign of too much internal wear and high pressure oil is getting into what should be a low pressure area on those pumps. I tried replacing a seal on a 2030 (same type pump) shaft wasn't bad but it didn't last. When the pump was torn down it was going to cost more to fix than a new aftermarket pump. Maybe you have a worn shaft and a speedi-sleeve and new seal will fix it; but from past experience with mine I wouldn't count on it.

Another source for hyd leak at pump besides the pump shaft seal is one of the plugs that's sealed with o-ring or plastic pump seal drain line could be the leak.
