PTO Lever Shuts off JD 3020 Gas

Still trying to get this tractor ready for my son to use on his acreage. Fuel gauge still doesn't work because the wire that's supposed to bring electricity from the switch is dead.

Yesterday I found a new problem. As I slowly engaged the PTO lever, the PTO shaft behind the tractor turned as it should. Then as I continued to move the lever ahead, the generator light came on and it nearly killed the tractor. Had to move the lever back or the tractor would have died.

Anyone on here have any clues on that one?

Thank you in advance for your help.
Terry

Your wiring harness behind the steering pedestal cover between your shins is bare and tangled in the PTO linkage down there.

You'll probably find out why your gas gauge isnt't getting power in the same area, as well, if no damaged wires, check the harness connector in that area that connects the harness form the switch panel to the main harness.

Thank you for your help, Bob! I'll be digging in there tomorrow to find the source(s) of the problems. I appreciate your reply to me.

Let us know what you find in there.

GOOD LUCK with the job, it's a sort of miserable place to work!

You were right, Bob. There was a bare wire inside that door that was caught up in the PTO linkage. Got that fixed! And while in there, I found a wire that was unhooked to the starter switch. When I connected it, that made the wire going to my fuel gauge hot. Still didn't make the fuel gauge work, so I'm now waiting in the mail for a new sending unit.

Thanks again for your help! God bless.

THANKS for posting back with what you found will probably help someone "down the road" who finds this thread in the archives.
