John Deere 110 question

Hi all,
I have a 1968 John Deere 110 square fender garden tractor with a manual lift. I’d like to get something that has a hydraulic lift to make plowing snow easier. I found a 112 on Craigslist with a hydraulic lift for really cheap but it doesn’t run. I don’t know what it would take to get it to run but if the engine is gone, is there any way to put the hydraulic lift on my 110? Or my 110 engine in the 112? Any advice would be appreciated!

Early 110/112 garden tractors shared some of the same hydraulic set ups.You can check it out by serial #'s of each tractor using PC 1080, on the free JD online parts books. As to engine swaps, the 110 is a 7/8 hp engine and the 112 is a 10/12hp, I doubt they would just swap over with out some motor mount modifications. IMHO it would be better to leave the 110 alone and repair the 112 engine. Many years ago I had to do some creative repairs to a guys 110 with hyd. lift. His pump was leaking. Parts back then were NLA.

112 could have either a Kohler or a Tecumseh, parts for the Tecumseh are hard to find. If you want a good setup for snow plowing look for a
140.

You would need to know what year the 112 was.
Different years use different hydraulics etups and the 110/112 setup is not an easy swap from one tractor to another.

IF it is cheap, just buy it.
You can rebuild the Tecumseh engines again, but it's not as easy as a Kohler.

I agree with you, jdal.

There's simply no comparison in the ease of use and in how much snow you can blow in an hour with a 140 hydro vs. a belt/gear drive 110 or 112.

140's have a lot of collector value, though, if a seller is aware of that angle.

I've bought two 300's (the model that followed the 140) darned cheap from folks who wanted them gone, and they use the same snowblower as the 140's.

312's, 314's, the earlier 316's and the 317's also take the same attachments.

With the tractors I've mentioned, hydraulic lift was standard.

Trouble is, then it's REAL easy to think one needs a 318 or 322, with power steering!

I've got three 328's and a 322, the old 140's don't get used much anymore!
