Had the transmission rebuilt last year and had a new clutch installed. Noticed clutch is beginning to slip especially in 8th gear. It's only been a year on the new clutch. Shop has always done a good job in the past. Any ideas.

If the flywheel has been turn too many times the pressure plate can bottom out on the outer base of the inside of the flywheel, and after a little wear it shows up...but check the adjustment first should have about 1 1/2" free play at the pedal..

Is the rear engine seal or front trans seal leaking some oil on to it? That would be my second thought after adjustment. Did it just have a new clutch disc or did it have a clutch job which includes replacing plates, springs, fingers ect? Tom

Any decent shop remove same amount from bottom and top of flywheel, should not they?

Yes,that is a standard procedure,,but as the the depth of the curvature at the inner base of the fly wheel stays the same, and as it gets cut a few times over the life of the tractor this curvature will allow the pressure plate to bottom out in that area and not put full pressure on the clutch plate,, I have been getting new flywheels for $350,,,and the machine shop has been charging $125 to mill an old one,,so I have been using more new ones lately ..If you still have slippage with ample free travel I would go back to your repair shop and have him take a look at it...If it was one of my jobs here I would split it and inspect it free even after a years use...

Like Tim I replace worn flywheels with new. Old ones are
usually cracked anyway.
Grinding was too expensive, surfaces ended up being too
rough and local shops have gone out of business.
