Can anyone tell me what the difference is between a John Deere 3020 row crop utility and a 3020 special utility tractor ?

well the first thing is you will probably find a row crop utility tractor in north america,
you MIGHT but probably wont find a special row crop utility in north america.
the special row crop utility was made for the export market and there are NONE in north america
unless some one exported it back here.
they were a down grade version with less syncronizers, steel seat and low grade almost like a 4000 model
of the 4020.
now as a collectors stand point of view I would own the special version because the production number
of them was significantly less.

I also read that the special did not have an engine balancer. I bet they must vibrate. Tom

That was true of the 3010 special u... I am unaware of a 3020 special utility like that. Could be.

Maybe it was the 3010. I just remember reading about one in Green Magazine years ago. I have a 3020 utility gas we use here on the farm. Right now it needs bottom shaft trans work, no 2,5 and reverse.I once came across a 3020 Lanz from Germany. It had a parking brake and German gauges and a reciever type hitch where the top link bracket went.It had new fenders so more than likely a jockey had thrown the original standard type away. I was to short of money to buy it and it was sold at a local sale to someone who had no idea what it really was.Tom

Thanks Guys . I did not know the special utility was a export . The utility I have is a florida tractor and it has a solid axel bar not adjustable and it has odd fenders . The serial # says its a 1965 row crop utility my guess is that its a utility / orchard half breed .

Just to throw it out there,, there is a 1970 3020 Utility Diesel for sale near me with a hole in the side of the block,, I have not seen it but my Nephew was looking at it last week,, of course a 3020 diesel block is near impossible to locate..I don't Know if it's a "Special" or not..

Tim : Would your Nephew, happen to have a picture of 3020, I was told there no 3020 utility' built after '68' ; The late model 3020 Row Crop could be ordered with low profile front axle & 28" rear tires, also downward exhaust , [like pic. on tractor fever calendar]... maybe there were some export models...

taylordeere: Grove/orchard equipment, was available for 3020 row crop utility, does your look somewhat like pic. .. Branch guards on hood , wheel cover fenders, down draft exhaust,[this one piped back up]...

My 3020 the hood is missing and the fenders are off of some other tractor . The tractor has a solid front axle that is swept back.The old guy i got it from said the block had been changed but it came out of a grove. The serial # is snt143R0816xxR. It has a small rock shaft assembly and looks to have some kind of draft control on the left side of the rock shaft .

Forgot to say the battery boxes were mounted on the right and left side of the axle and it has running boards not a platform .
