I have a 1952 John Deere B. I recently had a friend check out the Generator and charging system, and he installed a new voltage regulator. I also checked to make sure the regulator was correctly polarized. The tractor is still 6 volt, positive ground. After running the tractor for a little while, the ammeter seems to go back and forth between charge and discharge. If it shows a discharge and you turn on the headlights, it will go back to charging just a little. Then turn off the headlights and the ammeter might stay charging for a while or it might not. I had the same problem with my 1948 8n Ford with a 6 volt, positive ground. On that tractor I finally went out and bought a US Made Voltage regulator and put it on and I have Not had any more problem since then. I think I need to do the same thing with the John Deere B. The John Deere B generator was checked out and gone through by a local generator shop so I know there is nothing wrong with that. Do any of you John Deere guys out there have any ideas?? Has anyone else out there had a problem with the cheap made foreign voltage regulators? Thanks for any advice!!
