51 B oil filter body

I've been assembling a 51 B that I bought several years ago with a stuck engine. When I attempted to install the oil filter, it wouldn't tighten, the big nut on the cap bottoms on the filter stud before the cap seats on the gasket. I removed the cap & filter element & looked up inside. The filter outlet plate is missing & the top of the filter body is partially collapsed downward. I believe I have several options & I'm looking for opinions or experiences with similar problems. #1 Remove filter head & attempt to straighten housing. #2 Install a brand new housing. #3 I have a junked 50 with a nice straight housing if I can remove it without damaging it & install that one. Has anyone out there successfully removed a filter housing? I am thinking that a piece of all thread & a couple discs would work to pull the housing, perhaps it would also straighten the one in the tractor. Thanks in advance for any help. Sonny

I have removed them with a disc and all thread. I may even have one or two spares here too. They need to go in so the filter head is lined up. You may be able to just take off the head and straighten the top. Ron Mn

The top casting may also be busted up ? If only bent on the top and not the side collapsed you can easily straighten the top.

There is no damage to the filter head. Tomorrow I hope to remove the filter head & see if the body can be straightened or if it requires replacement. The block is already out of the parts tractor so it shouldn't be too bad to remove that one if it's needed. Sonny
