4520 clutch revisited

I finished putting the clutch in my 4520. I ended up putting a new flywheel and having the pressure plate rebuilt. The dowel pin/pistons and o rings for the pto seemed to be where the oil was leaking into the clutch housing. No leaks now. The batteries are weak and so are the ones I put in my 4440 {july of 2014}. The warranty is one year free replacement so I am going battery shopping. Deere wants $135 apiece and with the last strongbox lasting just over a year I am going to try some where else. Years ago I tried interstate batterries but they did not stand up well. Anyone know how they are now?

Make sure the batteries are for off road use as the vibrations will break the inside of a "car" battery . I would think any major battery company would have the right one . Just make sure it is the right cold crank amps. Make sure your charging system is up to par . A weak alternator will cause the batteries to crank but still be low on voltage hence low voltage will cause the batteries to fail sooner .

New Flywheel $728.00, Pressure plate rebuild with both clutch discs $800.00, other parts about $30.00, freight $200.00.

Both tractors are charging good . One of the 4440 batteries is bad and both batteries for the 4520 tested good. They were charged for a couple of hours each and the tractor was run for more than a hour but the next morning it did not spin over very good. They were over 10 years old so I just put in new ones. Will get them installed and it should be good.
