Thanks for sharing Tim....you are a marvel. You might think about a bit more plow though!!

I found the front end in a salvage yard, not sure what it's off of I was just looking for one with an off-set diff, and about the correct size, I had to make the wheel adapters, so I add the 3 ovals to match the rear. And yes more traction will use more power but as long as I use it for what a 60 was made for it will be okay. In the real world it would have been nice running the combine in soft going and working ground,, I remember a lot of slippage back then...

Tim,

Looks really cool. I like the "window" wheels!

But you didn't show us the hard part- how are ya going to connect the drive train?????

Or should we just stay tuned for next week's episode?

I'm working on that now,,I was holding back on posting so I could show you more,, so now I will post as I go,,but I have a clean little transfer case coming together...

By the subject matter, I thought you were building it for your 60C!! Looks like you got it scoped out pretty well. I don't have those kind of dreams.

I had a great trip,,but I shoulda been working on this project,, I'm going to step it up a bit now. I will be coming off the bottom shaft with an extra gear, making a plate to go behind and to the rear a bit for the transfer, these to gears will match up my ratio then a collar shift disconnect, and into a right angle gear box, the shaft will be going up past the flywheel to the front axle I need to do a final rotation count to bring my gearing together,, I have a rough idea now but it will need to be "exact"..or it will be like throwing into park...I wanted to use a rockford style clutch to engage it but it will take up too much room, I'm trying to keep it clean and simple,,just like the old guys did back then..

It's good to see the pics Tim, I too am a big fan of the window wheels. It looks tuff with the wheel weights and new tires too! Will it be ready for Rantoul? I hope to be able to make it there. I wish the stars could of aligned when you were on your road trip!

Wow Tim, Looking good....can't wait to see how you got that mounted to the front end. See you in Rantoul, Rich

I have been waiting for a report ever since I saw the start of it in your shop. I did not want to ask and give your secret away. The steering box,hyd valves and brake valve you rebuilt for my 4520 worked great. Thanks Tom

Tim, That is sharp!!! I see the steering shaft and steering wheel are missing, just curious to what you've got going on there?

I wasn't actually keeping it secret,, I just wanted to be farther along with it so I could post better pictures as I went on to the completion..I will be working out the new steering next week, it will be a hydrostatic steering system to hook into that combine cylinder on the steer axle..I was originally going to use a fan shaft power steering pump to feed my valve, but opted to a distributor mounted pump, an A_B_G live pump, I was lucky to find a new old stock one. I don't like the way it puts the distributor out farther, I am considering using an LP distributor that will head the cap towards the front and not stick out so far...

Tim that is a real nice tractor and an admirable project but I missed the 60C ,you must be retired and have plenty of time, as I think these tractors would take a lot of time to put together properly . Thanks for posting pictures and don't give up it will be a nice addition to your collection.

No, I'm sure not retired,, I work on customer tractors here all day long, but since I'm "self employed" I can make time when I want. I just enjoy these functional projects, and I like to build them in a way that 'could' have been done back then, I fully realize that they are in a way freaks,,but they are fun to do..and since I grew up with 60's I like it even more...The 60C is in the shed I am going to try to take it back to Rantual,,I still haven't put a blade on it,,that will be another project,I kinda want a 450 6 way for it..

Thanks Geoff, I have seen your pictures, this one will be slightly different than yours, I am going with a different steering, the drive will be similar,, I haven't got the ratio calculated yet, I hope mine turns out as good as yours did..
