John Deere 1020 Brakes

Okay long story but here it goes. I had a JD 1020 and the brakes worked fine when I parked it outside for the winter. The next spring when I fired it up they seemed really stiff. I just figured they had froze up a bit inside and would loosen over time. The brakes worked, and the tractor would move, I used it to load another tractor, but when you pushed in on the clutch it wouldnt roll free. I had the tractor to sell and sold it to a guy and we discussed the brakes but I didnt feel it was a major set back. He bled the brake box, I dont know the official name, its the box the peddle pistons enter, and they seemed to free up. After he would use it some same thing would happen the brakes would get stiff and he would bleed the box and they would free up. He took off the box and had it rebuilt at a jd dealership it helped a bit but still not perfect. He loaded up the tractor and took it into the dealership and they cleaned the box they just rebuilt. He says one brake works fine now but the other still seems to stick. When it sticks he drain a little fluid out of that box and it works for a bit....Has anyone had this problem or have an idea how we can fix this? Thanks

I suppose since brake valve has been repaired that the pedals pivot freely on the pins and the pistons move freely in the brake valve housing???

Sometimes the valves inside the brake valve housing can be a little ornery to deal with.

On our 2155, the brake pedal pivot pin got tight in the brake pedal bores and the pedals would not return to the retracted position without reaching down and grabbing the pedals and pulling back - I am sure they would have checked that---I had to get the pin out and clean up the bores.
