146 and 148 JD loaders

I have a 2440 JD tractor and I thought it had a 146 JD loader
but the other day a buddy was looking at the tag and it says
148!!! Did they ever put a 148 loader on a 2440?

Many utilities had them. 28s,29s, etc.
even 26s
A rule of thumb was 145s on 3 cyl, 146 on 4 cyl, and 148 on larger tractors.
That being said I've seen 145s on 4020s and once on a 190XT.

Those 1XX loaders have been out long enough that somebody could have taken 148 mounts to an auction after the boom, cylinders, and bucket bit the dust. I never worked for a JD dealer but maybe somebody figured out a way to order 148 mounts knowing they would fit a 146. I went to an auction this spring where a loader was sold less mounts even though they were on a tractor at the same sale. The owner just did not want to have to dismount the brackets for whatever reason. The auctioneer said before the bidding on the loader the brackets were at the sale but it was entirely on the buyer of the loader to chase down his own mounts. I also have seen all sorts of cob-ups when it comes to loaders and tractors.

You're correct I should have stated not mounting brackets avaiable for a 148 FEL for utility tractors below a 6 cylinder engine model

NY 986 you had better double check the measurements or model numbers of the loaders.

The 146 and 148 I have measure the same and by JD parts the they shoud measure the same since the boom and masts are the same parts.

JD Parts 146 148
Boom AW16048 AW16048
Mast AW16036 AW16036
Lift Cylinder AW25293 AH174800
Bucket Cylinder AH150042 AH150042

You just need correct brackets for tractor. 148 RC and utility brackets will work with a 146 (lower capacity loader). 146 brackets will allow a 148 to mount on a utility, BUT 148 capacity may be too much for utility tractor if not carefull.

You could convert a 146 to a 148 simply by replacing the lift cylinders with those from a 148 and switch decals and s/n plate (or remove is you prefer) so no one would know that it was switched.

My 2020HU with the 36 in tires has a JD 146 loader & brackets with independent loader valve.
Great setup. Txjim knows his onions!
