2020 C model Injection Pump

Well for the 2nd time in 13 months the old 2020 has filled her crankcase with diesel. I suspect it is the pump seal again, and it was $550 to get it "resealed" last year.

Can anybody tell me of a good place to just get a used pump? I know they"re a gamble but if it runs I"m willing to just get it running again. OR, does this shaft seal cross over on any good numbers? The pump seems to be fine, but it has now shucked 2 shaft seals in about a year so maybe the shaft is not so good.

Any leads would be appreciated!

Thanks

New parts have been obsolete for that pump for 30 years. Any shop that agrees to work on it will be using old-stock parts or used parts. If you like your 2020 you'd be way ahead to convert it to the DB style pump that has good parts availability. I assume you've got a either a CBC431-3AL or a CBC431-15AL pump. I'd change it to a DBGFC431-25AJ, JDB431AL2408, or a JDB431AL2731.
That being said - I might have some new OEM seals for that pump. I've got to scrounge around a little. I threw out a bucket load of CDC and CBC pumps last year but saved some of the seal-kits.
Note that your pump origially had a single double-lip seal in front (# R45039). Most were updated to using two single seals instead (#R46841).

Yes I remember you said that last year when I had the original problem with the seal leaking. The shop that resealed it said they had gaskets for it and on the invoice it was something like $160 of the expense. I do like this tractor but I can't do a changeover to the updated pumps right now.

The pump runs FINE. I know many others have this issue as well with good pumps and bad seals.

If you've got a seal I'd be interested in buying it as I believe I could install a driveshaft pump seal.

P.S. I find your JD pump posts all over the web on different tractor forums, thanks for sharing a lot of you info/experience. Glad to have you still posting

Thanks to jdemaris for providing those model #s. I will check at home later as I have a couple of pumps on hand that would be reasonably priced if you are interested.
