2020 Hydraulic Whine

Especially in cold conditions, my 2020 diesel has a nice audible hydraulic whine (sounds like a p!$$ed off cat with an eternal meow). It is coming from the front. I do not have the separate steering pump. The main pump has newer paint so it has been replaced before. All hydraulics work great however.

Is that front pump still likely gong out?

Thanks

Hyd whines are difficult to isolate on closed center hyd systems. My guess would be a high pressure internal leak but could also be a stroke control valve not seating properly.

Is the oil milky at all? Deere pumps whine a lot when there's moisture in the oil. Also what oil are you using and how cold is cold? Standard Hyguard is too thick for winter use. Deere sells a winter version. Standard Hyguard is 20W and winter Hyguard is 10W. I keep standard Hyguard in my 300B and 2020 and both whine when cold (below 30f). But I start them and do not rev up until they've sat and warmed up. One day I was in a hurry and started my 2020 cold and gunned the engine. It blew the hydraulic filter right off and broke that 1/2" bolt.

Oil is not milky. It was changed in early 2013 and is regular Hygard. It will whine all the time, but it is much more noticeable when it is cold (below 40F).

It's near impossible to change all the oil. Does it still whine if you shut the pump off or doesn't your's have a manual destroker? Do you have the German 1.3 cubic inch pump or the USA 2.4 cubic inch pump?

I'll have to check tomorrow and get back. No destroker. At least I've never seen one. I've thought about installing one for cold starts though.

Can you help me identify between the two pumps? And where the destroker would be located?

Destroking screw was offered in a kit(parts key #4) but is now is sold in separate parts

Difference in pumps is small one has 4 pistons(parts key #34) & large one has 8 pistons

The pump in the picture that was posted is the small German 1.38 cubic inch pump. It has no adjustable bearings inside like the 2.4 USA pump. Just needle bearings riding on the drive-shaft inside of it. It also connects to the coupler with a round shaft and key - instead of splines like the bigger and better USA pump. The German pumps can howl if the shaft is scored but you said the pump is new, correct? New as in "new" and not "rebuilt."
I've got a 300 and a 400 - industrial versions of the 1020 and 2020 and the both have the big USA pumps. The green ag versions often do not.

The 2.4 pump is not listed in the 2020 parts catalog only the .69 & 1.38 that's not to indicate the 2.4 couldn't have been field installed.

It looks like I've got the German pump. And I'd venture to guess it's been rebuilt before, but that could have been LONG ago as I have little history on it.

There is no German pump per say. All sizes of pumps were built and used at Dubuque. They even installed a little bitty four piston pump in the 2510 Waterloo chassis .
I can't recall if your 2020 has a loader. Father had a 2020 gasser with a 48 loader with a two lever control supplied from the scv.
It was the slowest, whinning, shuddering twit of a thing . Of course we didn't know any better as it was so much better than the 520 with a 45 loader and trip bucket.
Father mentioned the noise to the dealer one day and the response was something about an idiot mechanic in the shop. The tractor came back with the ported filter cover and a direct supply which left the scv available.
Would not know it was the same unit afterwards. Smooth, fast and quiet.

No loader right now, but it whines just sitting and idling. If it were to get a loader put on, It'll be with the ported filer cover
