Hi
I'm new to this tractor stuff but I bought a 1945 jd A and it's got the manual wheel to start it. Can I put a starter on this tractor? An what parts would I need? Thank you Jeff

I have a 45A handstart myself and only wish most of my electric start tractors started that easy. Also the best thing about it is there's no darn wiring to worry about.A good mag and carb set right and you'll love it.Ron

I've said this before here - if you do it, I'd seriously consider a guard.

A flywheel with an open ring gear is kinda like a buzz saw just waiting to catch a loose piece of clothing.

If you get the Magneto & carburetor right it will start on 1 or 2 slow ez rolls of the flywheel EVERY time. Much simpler to maintain, cheaper & less cluttered, & very unique & more fun IMO. :-)

Yes you can will have to get a electric start flywheel. A starter mount and a starter. You can find all this most of the time on eBay I have a 45 changed to electric start but was lucky found parts from a junk yard for tractors all for 200 dollars. Easy switch you will have to make a battery mount to. I went with 12 volt on mine with no alternator and put a battery maintainer to keep the battery up. Good luck.

You would need a flywheel, dash, starter bracket, starter, gen and bracket, battery box. Maybe a few other parts. If you were close to southen michigan I would switch you the flywheel, starter bracket and starter for the hand start stuff. I want mine hand starte but still want the lights.

Probably cheaper to find one w/starter.
