john deere 300b hydraulic issue

Inoperable hyd's could be simple or very complicated. How knowledgeable are you on closed center hyd's? I'd suggest you get a JD service manual. 1st and easiest thing to do is change hyd filters and check/clean hyd oil sump screen(parts key #17). If you find fiber material with brass chips on the sump screen then brakes are shot and need R&R. Stand-by pressure should be 2250 psi & trans pump pressure should be in the 155-165 range

What does "not move" mean? Wheels won't turn or loader/hoe functions do not work? The only thing the wheel travel and hoe/loader functions have in common is the transmission gear-pump. It powers the hydrualic reverser (or hi-low) and also powers the main hydraulic pump in front.

If your wheels turn and loader/hoe does nothing - #1 make sure the pump is actually turning in front. If turning - crack the feed line going to it while running and make sure some oil comes out. Any pressure is OK but it ought to flow enough to fill a quart-size can in 3-5 seconds. Note that on some pumps you don't even need to crack the feed line IF there are two test-plugs in the pump housing. One is a high pressure port and the other is the "feed" port. If you have the extra "feed" port -just stick a gauge in it. Any pressure at all indicates there is oil there.

Also you didn't mention your steering. It uses the same high pressure hydraulics as the loader and hoe. Does it work?

Let's not forget guys,this thing probably has an electric destroker doesn't it? That's where I'd start.
 
I'm not very knowledgeable on industrial JD tractors but I've never seen a JD tractor green or yellow with the elect hyd destroking kit but then I do live in Texas.
 
I was thinking in the colder climates the diesel industrials had them for easier cold weather starting. Might be wrong about that. I'm sure somebody will chime in.
 
Tractor is utility. No brass. Doesn't mean you're wrong
about brakes though.

Thanks for the correction on the no brass in utility brake pads. Oldtimers aka sometimers was in control when I posted earlier. :wink:
 
I doubt electric destrokers even existed in Deere equipment when the 300B was current. First I ever saw it offered from Deere was around 1982 or 1983. At that time there were very expensive kits offered that came with a complete new end-housing for the pump along with the destroker solenoid. Early 80s that kit sold for near $300. First time I ever saw one was when Deere was having awful engine quality control issues with 40-series ag-tractors. Especially with 2940s that had awful cold starting problems. We had to install many electric destroking kits on them.
 
Transmission oil pressures should be checked right after pulling the dipstick to see if any oil exists.. For checking oil pressures, look at the archives.. It will be the same as a 310 , 310-A, 410 system.. Every once in a while the clutch disk center will strip out it's splines causing no driving of the transmission..
