JD 2020 Hydraulic Problems

I"ve recently bought a 1966 John Deere 2020 and after repainting it have started using it a little. The problem is trying to lift my hay rake. It takes forever to get it lifted up for transport. Also when trying to lift my pull type shredder it is very slow and the 3 point is slow as well. The steering works perfectly and doesn"t chatter or anything. Changed fluids and filter, cleaned screen (nothing on screen). I"ve read lots of posts on the web about hydraulic problems on these and we actually own 3 2020"s but this one has me stumped. I have checked the pressure at the breakaway couplers and it is ~2000 psi @ 1800 RPM and 1700 psi @ 1000 RPM. I"m thinking since the pressure is good at the couplers it has a flow restriction somewhere. Just don"t know where to start checking.
Any ideas???

Thanks,
John

Does your newly acquired tractor have hyd ind pto or hi-lo shift?? If it were my tractor I'd set the stand-by hyd pressure @ 2350 psi. With engine running,3 pt in raised position, remove hyd oil filler cover on the rear, look inside for spraying oil.

Standby pressure should not change with rpm. The pressures you listed indicate a high pressure to sump leak. Add flow to that and it is probably dropping below the pressure control valve setting when trying to use the remotes. Look in the hyd oil filler with the engine running and see if you see oil spraying or dripping from the rockshaft valve. The o-rings on the valves fail and cause this scenario. Could also be in remotes or steering valve.

Thanks Guys, I'll check the spraying of fluid tonight and see.
TX Jim, it does not have Hi-Lo shift or hyd ind PTO.
How do you set the standby pressure?

With a 3000 psi gauge attached to hyd's turn stroke control valve adjusting screw(parts key #29) in frt hyd pump to set it at 2250 psi

I finally got a chance to look and there is a leak (pouring out) coming from the back of the rockshaft cylinder housing. It was kinda hard to see but it looked like maybe this is where the piston comes out.?? Part diagram shows it to have an o-ring and a back up ring. Anything else I should replace while I"m in there?<p>Thanks
Here is the picture of what I think I seen through the fill hole.

Thanks for your help!! Glad it's not my hudraulic pump. Hopefully I can get the parts and get her fixed.

I would change all the O-Rings in this unit. I removed this
entire unit and worked on it at the work bench. When I was
done, it worked like a new tractor. I lifted the Rockshaft off
the tractor with an engine hoist, then unbolted this unit.
Make sure you change the seal between the Rockshaft and
transmission housing and use a new gasket on housing.
