Just getting the wiring on the project Model G. Installed the Delco distributor, had juice from the switch to the coil and out of to low side of the coil to the distributor. I'm rotating the distributor to locate that sweet spot for starting timing and I don't get a spark! So before I go through all of John T's trouble shooting steps, (Thanks John for those by way) I had a thought, (I know how rare that is), that with all this fresh paint the distributor may not be grounding itself to the frame!!!!

My question is: Does the distributor need to be grounded?

Got the distributor to send and spark tonight after cleaning some areas to get better grounding. Also cranked the engine over till the oil system purged out all the air and got the pressure up. Getting real close to starting the engine. Then finish the job.

Many thanks for the advise guys!

Yes as I suspected. Need to start with the ground and workup, so to speak. Thanks for the getting back to me. Will I see in at the NY Expo in July?

I dont think so, I gave those same Seminars 2 or 3 years, perhaps someday they may want to offer them again.

Hey Rav long time no see. Buy Back Gardengale !!!!! !!! What a beautiful small New York State family farmstead and I will bring the RV and park it there next time up ..... ..

As Teddy points out and you had to know YES the distributors points ground to the base plate and it, in turn, needs to ground to the frame. With IGN on and points closed a test lamp on the coils to dist terminal (or dist terminal) should be OFF....It flashes ON when points open and OFF when closed if IGN on and engine slowly rotated.

Yes. How else would it complete a circuit?
