Thanks everyone that helped me with my last (and many) issues with my '47 A. I was able to get the oil leak in the governor fixed.

Yesterday I thought it would be fun to use the A to plant a small piece in oats. Here's a video I took of her working:

Well it sounds great. Yes you have the higher speed transmission. They slowed it down in 1950 with the new single stick transmissions.

Great video. Thanks a lot for posting it. Looks like you were having a super good time. Planting should be easier when you have all that help. Thanks again - Bob

Thanks! Yeah, it was great fun :) Now if I can just get the No. 5 mower restored before summer, I might be able to cut a bit with it too!

Great video. I am guessing you are in 3rd. gear. Looking at the throttle setting and the sound the engine is making I wonder if you are running at reduced throttle as it don't sound like it is turning at full 975 RPM. Could be a throttle adjustment needed if you have the throttle all the way forward.

The A has a great sound when working.

You are right--I did not have the throttle wide open. I guess coming from newer tractors I'm not used to doing that...

I was actually in second gear too. I don't know if this tractor has an extra fast transmission though. Sixth gear, she flies. It goes so fast in 6th that I rarely use it. I did a "race" with a 2010 once. It went right past it in 5th gear, without the throttle wide open. My GPS app on my phone clocks it at 19.x in 6th, wide open.

Look like the A had a extra set of cast centers on the back for weight. Thats the first time I have seen that done. I hope I get my 48 A running before long and sounds as good as yours.

You are correct! It does :) I knew someone would notice that eventually... This winter, the A would just dig strait down on the snow-packed road with the slightest incline. The other two two-cylinders, an older A and a B, had no trouble at all. I think they both have fluid in the tires. I don't want to do that, so I took the center casts off of a parts tractor that I have for added weight. By the time I did it, the snow melted--so hopefully it will help.
Thanks for your compliment on the tractor! It's been a lot of work to get it that way, and it wouldn't be where it is if it wasn't for all the help from everyone that I received here on this forum!!

How big was that "small piece" you were planting? That 'A' really sounded great...what size drill were you pulling?

Thanks! The drill is an LL-A, and I believe it is 14 feet. The field is about seven acres, so compared to the ones around it, it's pretty small!

Quite a fitting trubute to old style farming what with the dogs helping out and all. My Grandpa,s dog always went to the field with him and stayed 'til lunch and then went back out after 'til supper. I'm sure she layed under a tree in the fence row part of the time though. Nice vid! RB
