I have at 2950 mfwd that the steering will just quit turning.wiggle the wheel left to right and the steering comes back.this is a low hour machine under 1000 hrs.The loader also will not operate when this happens.Any ideas what needs fixed to correct this?

What type valve controls the loader(scv or ind). If ind valve disconnect valve return hose and start engine,if oil flows out of hose with controls in neutral then valve has reverted to open-center. The main hyd pump must be loosing stand-by pressure for both steering and loader hyd's to quit operating. I'd suggest getting a 3000 psi gauge and monitor stand-by pressure. Do pto or hyd hi-lo operation affect hyd functions??

How long since hyd filter was changed and sump screen checked/cleaned??

Make of loader control valve(s)? Is there a relief valve inside the control valves ? Is the steering problem new or always existed? Have to wonder if the tractor was miserable to drive , thus the low hours? Dubuques and Mannheims need to return high flow oil loads into a ported filter cover.

The tractor was just bought at a dealership it was traded in.Just bought the machine last week and only used it a couple hours to rake a field of hay and then move the bales. The loader is a bush hog 2840 model. I am going to check the filters and scavage screen this weekend and go over the entire machine. The tractor looks and and is tight as new.I hope this is something easy to find/fix.

Could be the problem right there with the valve the loader maybe using. You still haven't told us if the loader have it's own valves or uses the SCV valves. Or if the loader is supplied from the scv or plumbed direct.

I will have to inspect the plumbing and get back with info on this as i am out of town now and won't be back until tomorrow .So I will check it out and get back.If I do recall there is a big valve on the loader with the lines being tapped in to the plumbing on the right side of the machine.thanks for everyones help so far.I will hopefully be able figure something out with all the great info I have gotten.

Check and see if the oil return line from the control valves back into the tractor. If the line is flowing oil when the loader hydraulic controls at rest. There would be the problem. Return oil must flow to a ported filter cover. Just dumping the oil back into the transmission case starves the front pump.

Are those correct hrs, or has it only been used less than 40hrs per year for the past 25 years or so? Most utility tractors get more use than that especially with a loader attached.

The tractor was used on a small 100 acre farm and was used only to move round bales.Talked to friend of the original owner that bought it new and said yes they were correct hours.we were told he had the tractor for only that job and took great care of it.
