Got it fixed! I took off the cable in back of the tach and it looked like it had lube enough in it but I still sprayed it down good with Tefla Pent lube even when running, and down the cable good and sprayed some into and around where the cable fits into the tach. Then I packed some good grease in the end of the cable hoping maybe some of it will find it's way into the tach housing where the cable is. Put it all back together and it works better than I ever knew it. I used the tractor about an hour this afternoon with no problems. I don't get this lucky too often, but it feels good when i do.
