On my Uncles John Deere there was a bracket that hung down from the clutch housing/touque tube. It is clearly visible in this pic. I used it as a step to climb up when I started driving it at age 9.

Does anyone know what it was used for? The tractor had hydraulics, but it was not 3 point, just had chains from the lift arms on the rockshaft.

This is the barn where I spent many hours as a child. The John Deere was my favorite tractor. Behind it is the remains of the tobacco cart. It also had a pull type disk, 8 foot wide spike harrow, 10 ft EZFlo spreader and pulled a 4 wheel wagon when we were picking corn.

That tractor is a MT. The bracket hanging down is used when plowing for draft control. The front of the plow sticks thru that bracket. Russ
