I bought a #44 rope trip plow that im working on fixing up..is there a way to tell about what year model it is and which frame it has? All I can say is its a rubber tired spoke wheel with a rubber tire tail wheel.I called Jorde decals and they said they need to know which from it is..Any help would be appreciated.

Measure across the top of the 3/4" flat steel irons , outside of one to inside of the other.Lay ruler across the top. You will measure 12-14-16" one of the 3.Gear box uses GREASE ,no gear oil .Don't take it apart unless it does not trip proper and easy.Steerable tail wheel or fixed? Send a couple photos.Does it have 2 set levers or a CRANK? They are very cool to use if they are set up right. If crank level then last production. Which hitch nose does it have, 2 spring -3 spring-roller nose or flip latch clevis style or compression hitch none release. Really never much diff thru production.

Dis-regard my last post. The plow models were 10-12, 12-14 & 14-16. And changing the cut width would not change the width of the plow. Brain f@rt moment.

Ok I went out and looked,I measured the frame and from inside of frame to outside of frame and its almost 15ins,the plows measured 14in,it has a fixed tail wheel,no crank handles just the two land levers for adjusting the depth of the plow,it has a saftey release hitch.I had to pull the clutch cover off so I could get the wheel off the hub.Good thing I did cause it was full of water,Luckly everything looked good.So my question is what kinda frame does this have so I can order the right decals?Whats the best grease to put in the gearbox?about what year would this be?I got this plow to pull behind my 1949 john deere model B.I would like to find a no.52 two bottow to pull behind my 1944 john deere B.I thank yall for all the help yall are giving me.

They made them from 1945-1957. The 44 plow isn't measured like the older Deere plows, such as the 52 and 4B's and such. My 44H has the 15 inch frame, with 16 inch bottoms. Sounds like your's has the 15 inch frame with 14 inch bottoms. Where the shanks that come down off the frame that the moldboard mounts to, if you look one has a bend in it to the right, one to the left. You can reverse/switch these to narrow the cut if needed.

I found a good manual on ebay last year and bought it so if you need something looked up you can email me and I will help you out. They are great plows, I really like mine, except mine is hydraulic.

Oh and also, if your's has the lever's to adjust the plow, it's a later production plow. Mine has no levers, as it's hydraulic to adjust the depth and then the leveling is adjusted with a crank, like on a disk. Which they made this way from 1945-48. Then after switched back to the levers. My manual shows this. So for my John Deere 50, it's a period correct plow but to early, but that's fine with me. But this would be perfect/correct for your 49B.

What Jorde needs to know is which of the 3 frame sizes do you have. Based on your measurement of 15 inches, seems you have the 14-16 frame size.

By your measurements you want to get the decal that reads No.16"Frame
You can put regular gun grease in the clutch.
