2955 parking break

My father in law gave me his old 2955 tractor. The brakes are going to need looked at in the near future. I have to pull the parking break handle up until it doesnt have any more teeth to hold it on the bracket. Is there any way to adjust the brakes tighter? I have the manual that came with the tractor but it dont show how to do it. Yhanks for your help.

The parking brake is different from the foot brakes. On the left rear of the rear end housing under the left hyd couplers there is a pipe plug. Remove the plug and there is a screw head about 2 inches down. Tighten the screw until the handbrake is tight after 3 or 4 clicks. Then, underneath the rear end there is a screw with a jam nut. With the hand brake on , tighten the bottom screw finger tight and back off 1/2 to 3/4 turn. This screw supports the brake band when disengaged so it doesn't ride on the drum and wear out. The foot brakes are not adjustable. Being the tractor is new to you it would be a good idea to drain the trans oil and check the sump screen for brake material. It is common for people to drive with the handbrake on and wear it out.

Here is a photo of the nut(parts key #2) that Cliff was referring to.

The sump screen that Cliff suggested to check is parts key #39 in the lower photo.

When I pull the sump screen, will the hyd oil continue to run out? I need to check mine. Been known to leave the brake set occasionally...

Yep about 10 gallons of it. I have seen people state that inserting a shop vacuum turned on in oil filler hole will keep oil from draining but never tried it.
