John Deere 2550 tractor

Hello,
I hope everyone had a great 4th of July.
I've been looking at a JD 2550. I don't know much about this series of tractor. Does any know much about these and the history of the 2550. Are they a good reliable tractor or are they a problem child of John Deere.
The one I'm looking at looks in nice shape, been told that it is well maintained. It has a cab on it. I believe it is around 75 hp. .........anything that I should be looking out for on this tractor.
Thanks for any info or help that you can give me.

P.S. Hey F.I.T. Got my JD 530 clutch back together and it runs good. My 5 year old and I took it for a test drive
today. Thanks for your help.

The 2550's were of a good solid design, manufactured in Mannheim, 239 CID non-turbo diesel rated at about 65 HP. I had one and worked it too hard on a 14 foot disc harrow and it still never stopped. It's a very solid machine as long as you realize it's power limitations and match implements accordingly.

I have a 2350 which is nearly the same tractor and it is a good runner but the electrical system leaves a lot to be desired and I can't keep the ac working.

I agree with this poster. The electrical schematic on a 50 series tractor with a cab is a nightmarish spider web looking thing. There's a 2350 down the road from me that the AC has been a problem child. Other than that they are very good tractors for their age.

I've owned a cab-equipped 2550 for several years. It is rated at 66 PTO HP, but it seems stronger than that. It's been a great tractor for my uses (front loader, tree shear, rear grader blade, shredder), but I do little or no tilliage with it. I have used it to extract other stuck equipment and its pulling power seems to substantially exceed a 3010 I once owned and is close to a 4010.

Mine appears to be the European version and has a few quirks compared to tractors built for the American market, but overall I think I got a bargain when I bought it.

I really like my open station 2550. A solid tractor with plenty of power for haying which is my primary use. I pull a Vermeer 605H with it and it plays with it. I was told that if I had the cab version it would not have enough power to run both the air and the baler, but who knows.
