2150 mfwd question

I have a 2150 mfwd i am doing some service work to draining trans and gearboxes. I have found that the front is engaged. Question is do you have to have it running with oil in it so that the front is disengaged? I thought where i have all the oil drained if i have a problem now would be the time to fix it. thanks for the help! Brent

Well i have oil in it and everything else is working, but my front end is still engaged. I check the switch and wiring and everything is good there. What would be the next trouble shooting step? I am thinking i have a bad solenoid. Any advice would be great thanks Brent.

(quoted from post at 09:12:41 05/26/12) Checked the switch how? How much current is flowing
through the solenoid windings?
I checked voltage, i did not omh windings or amp it but i will if that is what you are suggesting thanks

Hi Brent, I am wondering if you remember anything about the solenoid for the 2150 you were servicing. I am working on one with the FWD engaged, the wires have been ripped off at some point. There are three prongs on the solenoid and I am trying to figure out where they go. I would imagine one goes to the toggle and one to ground maybe, Would you think one to a hydraulic actuator perhaps??

Thanks for any help,

Jim

As i remember there is one that is power from the switch and one is a ground, can't tell witch prong though, my solenoid was bad and bought a used one from Abilene tractor, new one was 350 dollars from Deere(wow)! The new used solenoid was enclosed so could not see the prongs. I would just jack up the front and trouble shoot till you get it or ohm it. Good luck Brent.

Alright. I got the positive and ground hooked up but still unsure about the third prong. Do you happen to know how much gear oil the 2150 holds? Being the solenoid is at the bottom I am assuming it'll drain it when I pull it out.

Thanks,

Jim

You don't have to drain oil, just pull protector sheild take the bolt from stud off, and slide off and put the other one on, 5 minute job. Good luck Brent.

Ps takes hydraulic oil JD Hyguard is the only thing to use, i would do it and a filter if you have not done it for a while, you will also have a spare prong only use 2. Good luck Brent.
