John Deere 4010 sudden total loss of hydraulics

Pulled the 4010 Ser # 8932 out of the shop to plow the drive way, after doing the most of the 1200 hr service, made a pass down the drive and picked up two scoops of snow and then suddenly loss all hydraulics. There was a small pump wine that quit at the same time the hydrolics stop. I was in the process of Raising the loader and dumping the bucket. Loader runs off the dual rear ScV. Nothing obvious externaly. This is my first 4010 and did I do something wrong or? Had tractor about a week before pulling it in the shop to service and it did not have this issue. I did replace the little filter in the main pump. I do have a steering valve issue when turning right. I did replace transfilter, wiped out housing, but did not see a screen or sump pick up to clean. Have both the JD and IT manuals. I have to get the loader up to get the tractor back to the shop. Cant pull it self out of the snow bank, even with the powerstroke hooked on. It has a(farmhand or IT/ Case?) big loader on it.

First check the pump coupler shaft, it could have stripped the splines on the pump end,,only way to tell is to drop the shaft out, you can do it without pulling the radiator, prove this part first, it's my guess on why it quit all of a sudden..Can you get a neighbor to back up to you and and couple the loader to another tractor to get the loader up??

I will check coupler shaft to the pump.
Is there a way that the pump could have loss its prime or get an air lock. I did crack open a couple of the steering line fittings by the fuel tank. (motor off) while in shop and rotate the wheel.
I do have a neighbor that has a 3010 that might do the trick to raise the loader.

No it's not air locked, that don't happen on these systems. It would be good to have a heavy piece of angle iron to prop the cylinder up cup the Vee of the angle on the rod and let it prop between the top of the barrel and where the rod attaches to the loader, be careful,,if you get pinched in there the wife might not miss you till breakfast time...

Not likely, it's pressure fed by the trans. pump, if the trans pump failed it would have been a gradual pressure loss, with a little rattle and shaking going on..

Check the pump coupler from the engine to the pump first. I had a 4030 that ate the things. For some reason, it kept working loose and wound up just spinning on the pump.

Okay, Neighbors 3010 is a monkeyed mess, so I shoveled and disconected the bucket in the snow bank got the tractor back inside. I seem to have some very weak presure as it would almost move the loader rams a 1/4" if I moved the leaver real quick. Before I pulled it out of the snow bank I did slide under it with a flashlight and with the motor running the front pump shaft is turning at the pump. I pulled the oil relief valve all looked good. Pulled the surge pressure relif and the everything look fine but the clean looking oil changed to a cleaner looking oil with dirt and maybe paint flakes or? in it. Lost probly a gallon or 2 in the snow by the time I got it back in. toped off the the hydro and Got it in the barn. Now on the way down the drive the steering did have some power boost, but it wasn't right and the loader or 3 point would raise. From the time i stopped at the barn till i got it shut off no boost, brakes have no boost either.
I didn't change the fluid in the tran when i did the filter because the previous owners answer to a leaking hose was put more gallons of fluid in. It was nice and clean looking.

If the pump drive shaft is ok then look for a stuck stroke control valve in the main pump. A manuel destroking screw that can hold the valve open for a little bit will often alow a piece of dirt to pass thew the valve and unstick itself.

I have seen De-stroking valves work loose and hold the stroke valve open, that would be a lucky fix for this guy, I'm shivering thinking about working in that cold snow....It's been so nice here in Central Ohio, I almost forgot about snow drifts... My Dad hated snow, he would say "If He ever won the Lotto" He would by a new motor home and wire a snow shovel on the front of it,,and drive till he ended up where some one would ask "What's that thing wired on the front" and that's where he would stay...

Here's a part schematic showing hyd sump screen. It lies across the bottom of trans housing between hyd filter and rear axle and I'd suggest checking it for plugging.

Okay, Got it in the shop, marked and checked the pump shaft its okay, with the tractor off opened up the destroke screw Fired her up and slowly screwed her back out. First turn nothing then the wheels started moving, next quarter turn put pressure to the loader which started picking up the front of the tractor. I jumped in the cab recentered the scv and then finished spining the valve out and tightened it. Went out and plowed more snow parked it in the barn and pluged her in. Every thing is working better than ever. Thanks guys

You didn't mention if you bled the steering valve. You said you had the steering lines open. It tells you how to bleed it in the IT manual.

They bleed them selves just fine, I haven't had a bleed valve open on one for years...Just cycle it both ways..
