I have a 1950 John Deere G. One rod journal had previously been turned down to .030" under, and the main"s should be round at .010"under. The main bearings are the split type that are adjustable with shims.

#1- anyone know where to find .030 under rod bearings?

#2- assuming I find rod bearings, is .010 under on the mains too much to make up for by removing shims?

Get in touch with one of those guys that repour rods and they can repour your mains thick enough for the undersize crank you just have to tell them what you need

If it is to be turned .010, get .010 inserts. Removing shims leaves an egg shaped hole & not much bearing surface for the crank to wear on. Check with the machine shop that does the crank for the bearings.

Good luck on finding .010 inserts for the main bearing. If I remember no one including Deere offered anything besides STD for the main bearings.

Right. Only standard mains from Deere. I looked on the archieves here to see what others had done and never really saw an answer. I agree though, it seems like just removing shims on the standard bearings would leave me an egg shaped crank. As for the other bearings, I"ve found lots of places, including Deere, that have .020 under only. I was just hoping someone on here might know another source. Don"t hurt to ask.
