"A" Water pump

Hi All, I am going to get a 1946 A, Serial# 56422x. I was told it does not have a water pump. This will be a complete restore. Is it worth the effort
to add a water pump? It will not be a puller. Will be used for parades and plow days. Thanks, Bob.

Hey Bob,

In my opinion, it wouldn't do you any good. I've got an A that's a couple of years older than yours (and doesn't have a water pump). I use mine to do what I consider "light work", mostly pulling hay bale wagons and raking hay, and can never get it near the ideal operating temp of 190 degrees. Even when it's mid-July and 105 degrees outside. In fact, I'm toying with the idea of finding some shutters and installing them (the originals are missing on mine) in order to help raise the temps.

The water pump was added to the A at serial number 700200. They made a retrofit kit for earlier tractors but if I recall it only fit the late styled tractors from 584000 forward.

Don't waste your time or money with the water pump. My early 47 serial #580xxx (same as your 46) never even gets up to operating temperature during a parade and when I plowed with it, it never got about the normal range. These tractors were designed to not use a water pump.
