With a little work on the brackets they will work, but for a 4020 or 30 series I would look for a 148. They are much heavier than a 146. The 146 can be a good loader for a 2510-3020.

The 148 is better match, the 158 also a good choice although a little longer. The newer 720/725 are about the same but are quick tach bucket and mounting and also cost about 2K more. The 48 although work fine too and are fairly reasonable. The 146 is to light and also a little too light.Usually best to not modify and let JD do the engineering.

ok--now thats the responses i have grown used to. yes, 148s are better,i sold the one i had and yes, this is on a 2440 w/trans out.....do you here my wheels turning? thanks

Then if it were me I'd trade the not engineered to fit on a 4020 model 146 for a loader that was designed to fit a 4020.

Yes I hear your wheels grinding,,and wanting to use what you have,,but this won't work out well for you, the loader will be too far forward, putting most of the load on the front axle, and then your arm won't be long enough to reach the control lever if you did bolt it on,,unless your knuckles drag the ground when you walk :)

thanks again....the tractor was sold to a wholesaler....and wasnt supposed to be advertised on the computer. should i start another forum for this?? i chewed the dealer up one side and down the other.....like don zimmer on an umpire! i said its ok...your programmed different...to screw people. the wholesaler is his b/law....should i start a forum for this? well i hope somebody got a "LOL" from this.

(quoted from post at 02:37:23 12/02/11) thanks again....the tractor was sold to a wholesaler....and wasnt supposed to be advertised on the computer.

If I were you I'd thank the wholesaler for saving some grief of trying to mount the 146 on a 4020 and then coming to the conclusion that the loader was too small.

I was at a large sale today and there was a 146 loader on a 2440 and a 148 on a 4020. I did not have a tape measure so I steped off the length of both loaders from the front of the tractor to the back of the loader(the loader itself not the brackets) and the 146 is 4-6 inches shorter. If you are buying a loader get a 148,but as you stated you have a 146 now there is no reason that a 146 will not be made fit and work fine on a 4020.It would be much better than a 46a or a 48. I wish I had a tape as there seamed very little difference in the two loaders other than the brackets. The cyclinders may have been a little bigger.

interesting--thanks for the input. what did the tractors bring? did they sell? sounds like an everrett sale. the 2440 will end up at lagro,in eventually.

Tom the problem comes in where the cross pipe or member in the front will hit the hood on a 4020 if you try to mount it back where it should set, they are made for short tractors..
