4020 oil filter cover cracked

I was bringing the 4020 to my place from another farm, and it started leaking oil out the filter cover. It turned out the cover was cracked between the bolt and the inside.

Has anyone seen this?

Engine oil filter cover?

Hydraulic oil filter cover?

Power shift oil filter cover (if a power shift)?

Had a 3020 that cracked the cover and dumped all of the oil, while using a stack wagon. Luckily Dad got it shut down soon enough to not hurt any thing, This was 20 years ago.

David, I had one crack on one of my 4020's several years ago. I imagine whoever had the tractor before me tightened the cover unevenly (such as tightening one nut completely against spring pressure before tightening the rest). When I change oil in mine I always hold the cover against the oil pan with one hand and install two nuts finger tight on opposite corners. Then I gently and evenly tighten the cover. No problems in nearly 30 years. Mike

Had it happen on my 4010. I would have said that someone wrenched them down unevenly but it's been in the family since new and no one's ever done that. Sometimes I guess after 50 years of field work things can just fall apart. Mine didn't happen to crack all the way through and held till I could get a new one.
