My 5103 would not fire but turned over normally, from the book I found the fuse for the fuel shutoff solenoid was blown. There are 2 red wires on the solenoid screw the secondred wire goes to the cold start solenoid by the thermostst. diconnected that wire, replaced 20 amp.fuse fired right up. I live in Florida so might not replace the CSS.thought any one with this problem would have heads up. I found good info on another forum seems like a common problem from that forum and the JD dealer. I"m having the same problem, My tractor quit in the hay field. I thought it was bad fuel. Replaced fuel filter but that had no change. Im getting fuel to the pump but not coming out of the pump. I beleive it is the same thing wrong with mine. Where is the fuse located for the fuel solenoid? I cant find it in my operators manual. Any suggestions??

William the fuse panel is under steering wheel in the middle. On page 145-25 shows fuse panel and it is f2 20amp. there is a spare in f5. page 135-1 shows the CSS just unplug that plug then new fuse if blown and should start. I havent replaced the CSS as im in florida. but it was $35 at JD dealer I may go ahead and replace it. hope this helps. Clayton

I went to my JD dealer this morning I was not going to replace the CSS but the mechanic says the CSS sends temperatue to computor if it is not replaced it could cause engine failure. so for $35 I replaced it good insurance. I dont understand why it is called a cold start selenoid. can someone explain. Clayton

The parts cat # 2844 for a 5103 doesn't list ECM,ECU or computer in the index nor in the electrical section. Ask that part's man if he can please supply your a part # of the computer.

The way I understand the operation of the CSS is it raises idle rpm,s until engine warms up.

Tx Jim thanks for the reply I didnt think of this until later but the wire from the CSS goes directly to the fuel selenoid not to a computor. It makes sense to what you described on the Idle speed to warm up, the CSS screws into the thermostat housing which is looking at water temp. thanks again. Clayton

TX Jim you are correct. A 5103 does NOT have a computer. I think that service guy was a little confused. All that sensor does is advance timing when its cold.
