60 intake manifold?

We got a crack on the outside wall of the intake manifold. We took it off, and found that the heat exchange chamber was packed full of crud. Has anyone see this before?

That chamber collects debris from the exhaust-pipe side (that is always open).. IF you can separate the intake from the exhaust, clean it out.. I prefer to make a Stainless replacement for the exhaust-side gasket of that passage, to block that side and keep it clean.. I have a supply of Stainless the same thickness as the gasket and it works fine.. I feel it helps keep the intake manifold somewhat cooler, too..

Yes, I think that is a common problem and why they may crack. Not many switch them from hot to cold.
