I braze them, smoothe them off and then put a thin layer of JB Weld over the joint.

Yes JB weld works good as a "sealer" over a weld or braze repair, I heat the area up to where its hot to the touch then spread the JB mixture on to it, it sorta 'melts' into any porous places and assures a good seal. Then give it plenty of time to set up.Some times when the conditions are right I use a shop vac to draw the mixture into any possible leak.

So do you still braze it or will the JB do by itself.

Braze it first, use the JB Weld as a final sealer.Make sure your happy with the braze job first, you won't be able to add to it after the JB is applyed.

Getting the old one out was the hard part on my USB. After that, the new one was brazed in with a torch and brazing rod. Make sure to get it seated in the casting first and then mount it on the tractor to line it up exactly with the radiator pipe. I had to heat the casting up with a rosebud tip to let the pipe be seated and lined up.
