Does anyone know where I can get a governor gasket for an unstyled A without buying the whole gasket kit? I know john deere may have them but I really dont have a dealer close.

Larry,

Have you considered trying to make one? I have made many of the gaskets for both my unstyled and styled B. A set of hollow punches to make the bolt holes is pretty cheap from harbour freight. Get an exacto knife and a box of blades, a few pencils and some gasket material, and your set. I have used thin paper for some of the governor/fanshaft gaskets.

You can trace the part, or xerox to make a pattern. You can also place a piece of paper over the part and make a crease all around with your fingers. You can also put stamp pad ink or graphite on the part to make an impression.

A set of transfer punches is also handy to transfer the bolt hole centers. Also available for cheap at harbour freight.

Good luck.

FWIW, BOTH part #'s are NLA at Deere.

I agree with Kurt make your own gaskets, find a local gasket company and see if you can get leftover material. Also heavy roofing felt can be used for some of the gaskets, the tools he mentioned from Harbor Freight make it easy and you can use a ball peen hammer to mark the material on surfaces you can lay the material on.
