1982 John deere 3130 (us 2840) oil leak

I've got an oil leak coming from a small steel pipe below and between the right hand gear shift stick and where the pto switch attaches. Could this be an overflow pipe as there is nothing attached to it and i can't see what would ever have been attached to it

At first i thought it was maybe a gasket of something under the shift levers but i took of the plate around the levers this morning only to find its just a dust/dirt guard for the gear stick boots to attach to.

any ideas what this leak might be or why the oil is coming out here?

As usual any help or information is greatly appreciated.

Alan...that tube is a barb fitting and there should be a plastic tube connected to it. The tube comes from the resevoir in front of the rad and is a drain line from the seal area of the front hydraulic pump. The line gets rotten and will disentegrate over time. You will have to repair or replace that line. Bob P.S. Where in Ireland are you located? Family came from ther a couple of hundred years ago.

thanks Tech 7
I've fitted a new rubber pipe and its helped the hydraulics quite a bit. I'm still suspecting an internal leak somewhere in the system but i can run alot longer now before sluggishness starts.

What implications would this pipe being disconnected cause?

Also nice to hear you've irish roots. I'm a good bit from Cork myself. I'm a donegal man, We're the most northerly county in Ireland wheras Cork is the most southerly.
