Hey Guys,
I know most of us deal with the 2-cylinder tractors but I stumbled over a 5020 that the fellow wants 3,500$ for. While it doesn"t look to bad and does run well and most of the stuff works on her it does have one serious problem. No low range gears. Now I have a fair amount of experience working on transmissions in 3020 and 4020"s but never have gotten into this big a tractor. The guy says if he doesn"t sell it pretty soon he"s going to scrap it. I checked the adjustment to be sure it is actually going into low range and it is but it won"t pull. It starts to go then just grinds so obviously at least the syncro is gone. My question is has anyone been in a transmission of a 5020 lately and what else am I likely to run into besides the syncros and rebuilding the shifter assembly. Looking at the Deere parts page it looks like most of these parts are still available but pretty pricey. Looks like two to three thousand just for these parts. I hate to see an old classic junked if I could save her without costing a small fortune. What do think.
