Yes, theres two ways, the old farmer method to just use a 6 volt Voltage Regulator n see what happens, depends on if a 2 or 3 brush genny and how well the match up between it and the 6 volt VR does.

When all was new the VR was matched pretty close to the genny such that field or armature currents were limited to their heat dissipation capacity, but theres enough wiggle room which will likely allow these farmer modifications to work, its more a matter of the VR' capabilities then the gennys in this case is my best guess. Ive made voltage conversions simply by changing the VR and it worked but when I used a 6 volt genny and a 12 volt VR it didnt set the world on fire as far as charge rate was concerned HOWEVER going from 12 to 6 sounds easier on the genny to me.

Basically a genny dont know what its output is that increases as it turns faster or you pump more current through its Field windings and that field current rate is what the VR is supposed to control.

Thennnnnnn theres the engineering correct method to have a shop convert it but that may cost more then simply getting a new, used or rebuilt unit n be done with it.

YES IT CAN WORK and may last a long time butttttttttttttttt NO WARRANTY if the VR relay contacts go bad (I think the VR may become the weak link). I dont envision the gennys Fields drawing too much current and overheating.

Id just give it a try, I hope Bob or Pat or Kurt n others offer an opinion on this one also, Ive done it and it worked is about all I can say for sure absent exact genny and VR specifications
