The neutral safety switch on the transmission didn’t work to keep it from starting in gear? Maybe if it was a power shift and was in neutral and was running could have popped into gear? Many possibilities but I would guess the transmission neutral switch wasn’t working or bypassed. The tractor is every bit 35 years old anything could have happen; just have to always be careful. Just too bad his eight year old found him.

Ya think maybe he tried to jump start across the starter and it was in gear?
