52 A manifold removal

Just started working on my 52 A. Manifold gasket is leaking and I want to replace it. Got the hood, gas tank, water pipe, carb, etc off. Most of the items that I figure would have to come off. The two rear manifold studs came off with the nuts. The front two has stayed in the head and the nuts came off. The governor housing, fan shaft assembly, air cleaner and radiator are still on the tractor. Was hoping I wouldn't have to remove them. Anyways, I have tapped on the manifold some and it seems solid with the two front studs still in it. Was wondering if anyone has had any luck welding nuts to the top of the studs, heating the manifold area around the studs, and then trying to remove them? If this worked then all I would have to do is slip the manifold out the side. Course, I guess if anyone has any other suggestions then I would appreciate it.

Pull the head off so you can have the manifold surface machined. If the manifold gasket was leaking, I would bet money the head at the manifold surface is erroded as well. When the head is off, have the valves and seats touched up as well as they probably need it.

I agree, pull the head with the manifold. I had a heck of a time getting my manifold and head separated, the bolts and the head and the manifold all became one. I had to break it apart and drill and retap the holes. I also had to machine both surfaces. You may also want to have the valves and head redone while you got it off.

Went ahead and took your guys advice. Went a head and pulled the head off. Going to take it to a local guy that messes with JDs all the time. The valves and seats are too big for our set up. Thanks again.
