Thanks to those who have answered some of my questions on 1020 stuff.I have 2 small pieces of property 4 and 5 acres,( not much, I know) but I am one of those people who likes to be self sufficent and have my own equipment. I enjoy working on things when I want to, but I have 5 small children, and time is scarce. Do you guys with more experience think I would be better served investing a little more into a 4WD compact diesel 25-30 hp, instead of the more cumbersome farm tractors. BTW, I mow, push snow, and do some brush hogging and loader work. Trying to decide, Ford 650, JD1020 or new...er?

I may be a candidate for advise. I have a 1020, 2040, JD4000, JD670, JD790 the last 3 are compacts. For mowing the 1020, 2040 drive like Cadillac and on large field my 2040 will run the Landpride 7' finish mower in 4 & 5 gear. The Compacts are great for small jobs and smaller tools, the JD4000 has the loader. For a lot of mowing the compacts will beat you up. A farm tractor has them beat hands down. If you want a good power small compact try the 790. Pricy...everything is just a preference. Keep the small children off when working....
