2640 power loss

Plowed snow for about an hour then 2640 started losing power and quit. Will start and then dies right away. Fuel filter, fuel pump, injector pump,?? any ideas where to start.

I would start with the fuel filter. How long has it been on there. Is there any chance you may have picked up some contaminated fuel?

Check for plugged fitting in pump that fuel return line attaches to. There is a glass check ball that can get plugged by parts of governor drive ring. Also blow out return line. How long since fuel filter was changed?

Outside of the obvious things to check (filter, fuel pump, water/ice in fuel or gelling), and fuel spigot at the bottom of the tank . . .

It's a very common problem if you've got the Stanadyne/Roosamaster injection pump. Internal plastic falls apart and plugs the pump's housing-pressure-regulator. When that happens, it will start and run OK, and slowly lose power and die. Then start right up again, lose power and die. Over and over and over until you fix it.

$30 to fix if you do it yourself, and maybe $600-$700 if you send the pump out to a shop.

Cold weather and likely an old filter with #2 summer diesel.
I'll bet you a beer it's wax in this filter and also wax in the next filter as well.
