john deere G tractor 1948 or 1949???????

i have a john deere G serial number 33353. i know the ship date was august 25 1948. my question is...one serial number book says its a "49 another book says its a "48. what year G do i own? i also want to restore a john deere 3 bottom plow to match the tractor. what model plow would match the year of the 1948 or 1949 G. thanks in advance john

A # 55H would be my guess on the plow. 3 btm pull type came in either clutch lift or hyd. Hence the "H" instead of A or B.

Here is what I found on your serial number. I dont think there is any thing different between the 1948 and 1949 to be able to tell for sure.

Tractor data says 1948

YTMAG says 1948

JD heritage says 1949

As the 1949 production year started, the first Model "G" tractor off the line was serial number 32457, and as 1949 production ended, the last tractor off the line was 40760.

What you must decide is whether you want to go by production year as most every industry does, or hang on a calendar date! Many threads in the archives deal with production years, and so I'll not go into that issue here. (PatB)

Serial # started for 1948 with 25235, serial # for 1949 started with 32457, you be the judge.
