16.9-34 to 18.4-34 rear tires

I have a 3020 with 16.9-34 tires on it and I have a chance to buy some good used 18.4-34 tires. Will they work on the same rims (15") and what do I need to watch out for. How much different is the o.d.

Steve, assuming the two different tires are the same brand you will be adding about 3" to the diameter of the tire, or a 1 1/2" radius. The 18.4's can be mounted on the narrow 15" rims but will be ballooned quite a bit which will add more to the diameter (and loaded radius) of the tire. The only exception to this is if the 18.4's are the older "squiggly" bar Goodyear tires. They are smaller, size for size, than most other tires of their era. They are about a half size smaller than the same size in other brands. So, the long way around to the answer is "maybe". Mike

We did it on a 4010 and they did stand taller but didn't look bad and we still used chains without moving fenders .The chains would hit the fender a little in roadgear but not bad

The new generation fender heights are adjustable. No need for there to be a tire chain conflict with the fenders.

Thanks for the replies. Tires were gone by the time I could get off work and get there. But at least I know I can look for a couple of different sizes, Thanks
