'69 4020 12v starter?

My neighbor asked if I knew how many amps a 12v starter draws. I looked in tech manual for a 4255 and it stated 130 amps. I know my 4255 has a "denso" starter and I think 4020 has a Delco .Will this be close for a 4020 with a 12v starter? Thanks,Jim

I would guess that is a no load specification. I would guess more in the vicinity of 300 t0 350 amps. It is hard to come up with a good figure as a loaded test is testing not only the starter, but the condition of the engine.

The listed specs on the delco starter JD has in the conversion is 900 amps at 8.4volts at rated load, 184 amps 9 volts for no load. Thats why I wont put less than 1000 amp total batteries in it. Anything less will starve it when it needs it.
